Questions to Ask Your Barcelona Wedding Photographer

Choosing your wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions in your planning, because the photos are what remain after the day is over. Weddings in Barcelona also have details that are different from weddings in other places: late ceremonies, long dinners, celebrations that continue after midnight, strong sun in summer and many couples who travel from abroad. These are the questions we recommend asking before you book.

1. How much experience do you have photographing weddings in Barcelona

Experience matters most when something unexpected happens. Ask how many weddings the photographer has shot, whether they know your venue or area, and how they handle surprises such as a delay, a change of location or a sudden storm. Someone who knows the city will also know where the light is best and how long it takes to get from one place to another.

2. What is your style

Some photographers work in a documentary style and stay in the background, others direct poses, and many combine both. Ask to see complete galleries from full weddings, not only a selection of highlights. A full gallery shows whether the quality and the creativity stay consistent from the first moment to the last.

3. How many hours of coverage do you recommend

Spanish weddings often start later and finish later than weddings in other countries. A ceremony in the evening, a long dinner and a party can easily last more than ten hours. Ask what coverage is included, what is the cost of an extra hour, and which moments the photographer suggests covering, such as getting ready, the ceremony, the portraits, the first dance and the party.

4. How do you work with the light

Midday sun in summer is intense, and many Barcelona venues have indoor areas with low light. A good photographer will explain how they plan the schedule around the light, whether they use flash, and what they do if the weather changes. Ask for examples of photos taken indoors, at night and in strong sun.

5. Do you know the rules for photographing in public places

Some parks, monuments and viewpoints have rules for professional photography, and some require a permit. Ask who is responsible for arranging this, and whether there is a travel or transport fee if your wedding or your portrait session is outside the city.

6. Who is on your team and what happens if something goes wrong

Ask whether a second photographer is included and whether the photographer has backup equipment. Also ask what happens if the photographer is ill on the day of the wedding. A professional will have a clear plan and a network of colleagues they trust.

7. Which languages do you speak

If you are marrying in Barcelona as a foreign couple, it helps when your photographer can speak your language and also coordinate with the venue, your planner and your guests in Spanish or Catalan. Good communication before and during the day makes everything easier.

8. How does editing and delivery work

Ask how long it takes to receive your photos, how many photos you can expect, how they are delivered (usually an online gallery), and whether you can download and print them. Also ask about the editing style so you know whether the colors and mood match what you like.

9. What does the contract include

Read the contract carefully. It should cover the deposit and payment schedule, what happens if you need to reschedule or cancel, what happens if the photographer cannot attend, and how the images can be used. If you are paying from another country, ask in which currency and whether taxes are included.

10. Do we connect

You will spend many hours with your photographer on your wedding day. Ask for a call or a meeting before you decide. You should feel relaxed with them, and they should be interested in what is important to you.
